About Davis

I am a fifty-something guy originally from Florida but living for the past several decades in a suburb of Charlotte, NC. I used to write a humor column for my college (Florida State University) newspaper and decided recently to try it again, except in blog format. I’m now posting something new every weekday. Let me know if you like it.

    Hi Davis,
You are a bitingly funny guy. I’m afraid I was one of those middle-aged skulkers around the walls at this event, but I truly enjoyed your take on it.
I think the best thing about blogging is that you get to choose what you write and who you are, no matter any other advice about writing short or including pictures.
So good luck, and I look forward to reading more.

  2. Corey Creed Says:

Love the blog. Keep up the great writing.
I hope to meet you in person someday.

  3. redriverpak Says:

    Keep up the good work!

  4. Lorrie Says:

    Davis — YOU ROCK!

  5. Josh Says:

Now this is some funny stuff!

And to answer your question; yes, Tristan is my son, he is real.

I thought a blog of what I think he is thinking would be fun for family members, but I think it’s more fun for me than anything.

  6. Donna Miller Says:

Hey, Davis. You need to post a picture of yourself on the blog. I want to see if you are as funny-looking as you write. And don’t try to hide behind one of those rubber-nose with glasses masks, either.

  7. talker96 Says:

You love to write, your good at it(unlike me) and, dog gone it, people like you…..Why don’t you do it for a living?
On another note, I like blogging but I find it at times frustrating because, like you said on my site, you expect a little bit more recognition than you, often times, receive. Like with my page, I think it’s funny, but when I only get maybe 5 views for a particular post that even made me laugh while writing it, a little self doubt seeps in.
    Oh well…..

  8. coffeegopher Says:

(I may or may not have attended FSU and written for the FSView as well….)

  9. fakename2 Says:

I’m glad I discovered you. Or you discovered me. Or whatever. But how funny is this: I’m in Tallahassee. You need to move back.

  29. davidneidert Says:

After you commented on my blog I thought I would give yours a read. Upon reading, I again would like to say I appreciate your compliment. It means more to have someone appreciate something you write if they themselves are a capable writer. Thanks again and I will continue to follow your blog.

  30. Charles Says:

I wanted to thank you for the comments you have left me. I am having a hard time getting back to anyone via the comments, most of peoples avatars have not been enabled to trackback to their blogs. Of course I couldn’t figure out how to get mine to do it either and I wound up contacting support and they did it for me.

And I also wanted to apologize for not reading your blog as much. I am legally blind and I have hard time just maintaining my own blog so I feel really bad about that. I just can’t read large volumes of text without straining my eyes. I was born with mauclar degeneration and… well hope you understand. I am not trying to be rude.

It’s amazing, people tell me. That I can do what I do. I suppose it is, I just don’t really think about it, I do what I have to do.

But I felt like I owed you an explanation, I am not trying to be a snob. I would read more and comment more if I could. And I thank you very much for reading my poetry and commenting. I don’t necessarily write or ask for comments but it is always encouraging.

  31. gary Simmons Says:

in a word, Great. Oh,lets make it two words. Great Blog

  32. fnord Says:

Hello Davis. Guess you’ve figured out what I think might be the secret to living well — laughter. If I ever lose the ability to laugh at myself, and with others, I think I will have lost something necessary. Thanks for the laughs!

  33. rfgainey Says:

Great blog! You are one of my laughs every day….

  34. robsaucedo2500 Says:

Hey… I’ve appreciated your comments over the last couple of weeks. More so, I’ve appreciated your blog. Good stuff.

  35. snigdha Says:

    Hey Davis,

  40. mindofmarissa Says:

  41. Tiffany Herr Says:

I finally made it over here to see what you are writing about! Thanks for visiting my blog. You are hilarious- loved the gardening as exercise one- since I do garden and I think you were quite generous in awarding 5 steps to caterpillar squishing!

  42. phylliscjohnson Says:

Florida is nice but it’s a good thing there’s pool to jump into to cool off here. So you used to be a humor columnist? Me too- for four years I had to find something funny about life every week to write about. It did make me look at things in a lot different vein. I should think like that all the time- it made problems look like something to just laugh about. Here I sit working on a book based on the Bible and asking myself how to inject some humor into it…. I’m not too good at committing to regularly writing a blog- something I have to work on. I just need to make my days more than 24 hours long.

  43. timoCerantola Says:

Great stuff! Also, I was wondering what your head and face looked like. (I thought you’d be taller).

  44. --Rick Says:

Excellent, witty and interesting! I’ll definitely be back often

  45. atticannie Says:

Hi Davis, I just started blogging two weeks ago and know very little about it. If you link to other sites, I’d be very happy to be linked to you and to link you to my site if I can figure out how to do it…something about subscribing maybe? I enjoy your humor. I’ll look for you more often. Do you believe in “sparks” or you just don’t know that much about them? Attic Annie

  46. fangybunny Says:

I love your work…it tickles my laugh muscle often and is a pleasure to read. What more can you possibly ask of some words and a flickering computer screen?
I have linked your blog to mine, nothing shady or stalker-like but merely so that others may enjoy your thoughts on Life….
    Thank-ee kind sir!

  47. berryblade Says:

Those are some dope-ass glasses (no sarcasm)

  48. btchakir Says:

The funniest to me is taking truth and laughing with / at it! You do that so well! Thanks! I wonder if you would allow Prairie P&Ps to add your blog to our blogroll? I know our group would enjoy your blog, and it would give them a reminder and quick click to get here. (Some of us are old 🙂 and need written-down reminders.)

  57. defpunk Says:

I was about to come here to say ‘hey, loving the blog, keep it up’, then I saw the hundreds of people who posted here before me, and jealousy overcame me. Now I’m not gonna say what I intended to say, and give you the evil eye instead.

** gives you the evil eye **

  58. Claire Cohen Says:

I just stumbled on your blog and love it. I am Claire from the Flambeau. I still live in Tallahassee am miss the Flam so much:-( We are hoping to put together a Flambeau reunion, so shoot me an email or friend me on Facebook (Claire Cohen, Tallahassee, FL) if you are not yet in the loop and would like to be.

    • davisw Says:

Hi Claire — I remember you very well from the old Flambeau days. Thanks for the kind words. I’ll be checking out that reunion for sure. Hope you’re interested in continuing to read the blog. I have a lot of fun with it. Thanks again.

  60. AH Says:

Hi, I ran into your blog. I like your humor,so I’m saving the address so I could drop in occasionally. I also like the template. Can you please tell me what is the name of the theme you are using if it is a standard wordpress theme? If it is not, then ignore the question. thanks 🙂

  61. forsythkid Says:

Great blog. Please keep it up. Your friend from the Viagra blog.

  62. Eric Moss Says:

Davis, you always had a REAL low-key sense of humor. I ought to know. I worked side by side with you at the Flambeau, with Bruce Raben and Ammerman and Kirwan and Raulerson and…need I go on? Have I established my bona-fides? Also found you on Facebook. If the “Claire Cohen” up there is Raulerson I’m going to collapse.
